The Altadis Tobacco brand produces Gauloises cigarettes, which at one time were smoked by almost the entire Parisian beau monde: this was considered good form and almost an obligatory attribute of a decent person. Their bright and even capricious taste is also to the liking of modern lovers. Favored by Sartre and Camus, Gauloises cigarettes are able to give great pleasure thanks to their exquisite tobacco composition.
Gauloises cigarettes are the epitome of French cigarettes. The Gauloises cigarettes origin dates back to 1876, when the cigarette brand saw the light of day in France under the name “Hongroises” (“Hungarian”). The cigarettes were given today’s brand name Gauloises (“Gauls, Gauls”) in 1910. The striking Gallic winged helmet has adorned cigarette packs since the mid-1930s.
For a long time, the typical feature of the Gauloises cigarettes was their dark, strong tobacco, which can still be found in the Gauloises Brunes today. Changes in smoking habits and US competition led to the launch of Gauloises cigarettes of the Blondes version in the mid-1980s, for which an American blend mixture is used to match the new smoke taste. The youngest child of the brand family are Gauloises Liberté, which are free of additives.
Gauloises cigarettes are intended to convey French savoir-vivre. However, the Gauloises cigarettes haven’t really been French for a few years now. They became English in 2008 with the acquisition of the Spanish-French tobacco company Altadis by Bristol-based Imperial Tobacco (now Imperial Brands). Production for the German market takes place in the Reetsma factory in Langenhagen (Lower Saxony). Since Reetsma was also taken over by British tobacco giants in 2002, the former Frenchwoman has become a German Englishwoman. Nevertheless, the brand image focuses on France in terms of Gauloise’s origins, which is reflected in the Gallic winged helmet and in the French designations of the three lines (Brunes, Blondes and Liberté).
The brand of Gauloises cigarettes had become international. But our customers prefer to order them in our online store.
